Programme

This is Edgen Murray's first Graduate Programme and we are pleased to be launching it during a period of continued growth for our business. We are excited at the prospect of developing new talent that will be fundamental to our continued and future success. Our Graduate Programme is made up of various placements in different areas of the business, which will aim to give you a well-rounded understanding of the company, invaluable international experience and a strong foundation across all the core disciplines within the company: Finance & Administration, Commercial/Sales, Marketing and Operations. For each placement, successful graduates will have a defined job scope with room for increasing responsibilities and the opportunity to really impact the business with ideas whilst learning from our experienced team members. Potential tasks within each discipline could include:

Operations

  1. Provide project assistance on building/opening a new warehouse.
  2. Work on implementation of Oracle.
  3. Assist with management of a major project.

Finance & Administration

  1. Work on implementation of Oracle across the Eastern Hemisphere.
  2. Develop and implement report standardisation across the Eastern Hemisphere.
  3. Get six months of in-depth experience in any one of the aspects of accounting in a multinational company: Payables, Receivables or General Ledger.

Commercial/Sales

  1. Work with a Sales Manager on either the introduction of a new product or support for a complex project.
  2. Provide project support on a new location the company is considering.
  3. Get six months of in-depth Sales experience, working on both account management and new business development.

The Programme will give you the chance to travel extensively, so you need to be at ease with the idea of travelling and working outside of your comfort zone. You’ll be challenged on a daily basis but will also have all the support you need from our existing team members to ensure that you are able to approach each task with confidence.

Placements

Before each placement begins, you will have an opportunity to discuss the options available with our HR teams and your graduate mentor. Where possible, multiple options will be provided to you so that you can take control of your own career path. We are looking for graduates who are flexible and open to new learning opportunities and new locations. We are a truly international company, and the more flexible you are, the more opportunities we will be able to offer you.

Locations

Of the various placements, the first (and potentially the last) will take place in your home location and department, which will be at one of our three Eastern Hemisphere hub locations (Edinburgh, Dubai or Singapore). These hub locations are offices where we have teams working in our core disciplines. Your other placements could be at any of our global locations where Sales teams are based. All of our Eastern Hemisphere locations are listed below:
  • UK; Edinburgh (Newbridge), London, Darlington
  • France; Paris
  • UAE; Dubai
  • India; Gurgaon
  • Australia; Perth
  • Indonesia; Jakarta
  • Singapore
  • China; Shanghai

Placements can also take place in the USA, Brazil or Canada. Please note that it is currently anticipated that initial placements will be based outside of the Americas. To find out more about our other offices and markets click here.

Rewards

The rewards for working for an international company like Edgen Murray speak for themselves in terms of the varied and diverse opportunities available.

Successful graduates are eligible for rewards, which include:

  • A competitive starting salary
  • Eligibility for annual bonuses, merit and inflation-based salary increases
  • Participation in a company savings scheme
  • Access to our retail discounts scheme, Edgen Murray Rewards
  • Our regional and local recognition schemes
  • Housing provided to graduates when working away from location

Having a diverse workforce is crucial to enable us to reach our diverse customer base. As part of our personnel strategy, we are committed to providing equal opportunities and welcome all applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or disability.

Development

Mentoring

Once you have joined us as a graduate, you will be aligned to a member of the Eastern Hemisphere Board who will operate throughout the Programme as your mentor and sponsor. How often you communicate with your mentor will depend, in part, on your needs, but you can expect regular one-on-one sessions with your mentor for advice, organisation, insight and to focus on your development needs. Your mentor will look to inspire, motivate and challenge you with each new opportunity during the entire tenure of the Programme.

Training & Opportunities

During the two years of the Programme, there will be a number of training and development events and opportunities available to graduates. These will include an induction scheme, a mentoring scheme, on-the-job training, encouragement to undertake applicable professional qualifications and 2-3 learning events that help graduates with the transition from academia to work life. Any other courses that are considered to be important by both you and your line manager will be given due consideration.

After the Programme

We see the Graduate Programme as bringing new talent into our organisation and aim to provide you with the skills and background knowledge via the two-year scheme to prepare you for a long-term career with Edgen Murray. Upon successful completion of the Programme, we will work with you and your mentor, considering our business requirements and your career motivations, to place you into a permanent position within the company. A permanent position will have a fixed location, but you will continue to have every opportunity to influence and shape your own career.
